Vincent E. Doyle III, a partner with Connors & Vilardo, LLP (Buffalo, NY), is a commercial litigator whose practice includes civil and white-collar criminal litigation, and representation of professionals in disciplinary proceedings. He also advises on legal ethics matters.
Mr. Doyle is a past President of the New York State Bar Association. The 77,000-member Association is the largest and oldest voluntary state bar association in the country. Mr. Doyle served as President from June 2011 to June 2012.
During his term Doyle focused on efforts to improve the quality and availability of legal services, particularly to vulnerable populations such as veterans, immigrants and poor people, and the Association's efforts to increase its own diversity and that of the legal profession as a whole. As a result of his initiatives, the State Bar earned an American Bar Association partnership Award for substantial and innovative efforts to advance diversity in the legal community.
Mr. Doyle was Chair of the State Bar's Criminal Justice Section, and the first Chair of the State Bar's Committee to Ensure Quality of Mandated Representation, which advocates for ways to improve the state's public defense systems. As a result of the efforts of this Committee, the State Bar received the Harrison Tweed Award by the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants and the National Legal Aid and Defender Association. Mr. Doyle himself was honored with a "Service of Justice Award" by the New York State Defenders Association.
Mr. Doyle sits on the Advisory Committee on Criminal Law and Procedure to the Chief Administrative Judge of the State. He was appointed by the Chief Judge the State to the New York State Sentencing Commission, a blue ribbon panel charged with formulating ways to improve New York's sentencing laws. He previously served on the Commission on the Jury, also by the appointment of the Chief Judge.
Mr. Doyle served on the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of Erie County. He is a past President of the Erie County Aid to Indigent Prisoners Society which administers the County's assigned counsel panel.
Mr. Doyle received the 2012 Lawyer of the Year Award from the Bar Association of Erie County, and a Distinguished Alumni Award from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School.
Mr. Doyle is a graduate of Canisius College (All-College and English Honors) and the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School (magna cum laude).
