Two public events to discuss indigent legal services will shortly be held in New York City and Albany.
- May 29, 6:30pm at the NYC Bar Association Prof. Adele Bernhard of Pace Law School will moderate a discussion titled 'Justice for the Poor: Fixing Broken Public Defense Systems in NY and Beyond." The panel is hosted by the NYC Bar's Committees on Criminal courts and Criminal Justice Operations and will feature Stephen Bright (Southern Center for Human Rights), Tina Luongo (NYC Legal Aid Society), Corey Stoughton (NYCLU), and Steve Zeidman (CUNY). - June 6, 9:00am at Albany Law School the NYSBA Committee to Ensure Quality Mandated Representation will host a day-long discussion titled 'The Past, Present and Future of Indigent Defense in New York: Where Has 10 Years of reform Gotten Us and Where Are We Going?' A series of panels will feature speakers from ILS, the NYCLU, providers of indigent legal services, and others. More details can be found here, and you can register to attend here.
